What To Expect For Your First Appointment At Sweet Spot Health

Welcome to Sweet Spot Health!

Where we help humans with disordered eating and eating disorders find their sweet spot with food. Let’s talk you through what you can expect for your first appointment.

If you’re here, chances are you’re ready to embark on a journey toward a sweeter relationship with food, body image, and movement.

We understand that taking this step can feel daunting, however rest assured, you’re not alone.

We are here to guide and support you through your first appointment

At Sweet Spot Health, we believe in a practical, sustainable and personal approach to nutrition. For this reason, we move away from restrictive diets, calorie counting and unfounded food rules. Instead, we focus on building a sweeter relationship with food and your body.

From there, it becomes possible to quiet the inner critic and start enjoying a life where your value is not determined by what you have eaten, how much you have moved or the number on the scale.

Most importantly, this approach helps free up precious brain space by reducing the constant mental acrobatics that lead you to overthink every food choice and question your self worth.

Now, let’s dive into what you can expect during your first appointment with one of our dietitians

1. Warm Welcome

From the moment you step through our doors (or hop on that online call), you’ll be greeted with warmth and understanding by one of our expert dietitians – Maddi or Emma.

We know that embarking on a journey toward finding your sweet spot with food can feel daunting. Because of this, we strive to create a safe and welcoming space where you can feel comfortable sharing your concerns.

2. Personalised Assessment

Your journey toward finding your sweet spot with food begins with a personalised assessment in the first session. We’ll take the time to understand your history, needs, goals and current roadblocks standing in your way.

We’re here to listen without judgement, offer guidance and advice when needed and help you get to a place where food not only tastes good, but makes you feel awesome too.

3. Collaborative Goal Setting

Once we have a clear understanding of where you’re at and where you want to be, we’ll work together to set realistic and achievable goals. This is typically done briefly at the end of the first session and in a whole lot more depth during the second session.

Whether you’re aiming to improve your relationship with food, boost your energy levels, or cultivate a healthier body image, we’ll tailor our approach to suit your individual needs.

4. Evidence-Based Guidance

As non-diet dietitians, our approach is rooted in evidence-based practices such as intuitive eating and Health At Every Size (HAES™).

We’ll provide you with the knowledge, tools and support to make informed choices about your health and well-being. All without resorting to restrictive diets or harmful behaviours.

5. Ongoing Support

We recommend that the journey toward finding your sweet spot with food doesn’t end after the first appointment. This is because our goal is to help you develop a sustainable way to care for your physical, mental and emotional health.

We believe empowerment drives positive change, and we actively support you to achieve it.

There is an overwhelmingly large body of evidence to support the idea that long-term positive behaviour change requires extended care in the form of multiple repeat consults (1). Because of this, working with us will typically span over a number of sessions. This will be something you and your Dietitian discuss at the start of working together.

We’re Here To Support You

We’re here to support you every step of the way, whether you’re facing challenges or celebrating victories. From regular check ins to personalised resources and recommendations, we are committed to helping you reclaim control of your life. As a result, your physical, mental and emotional health are supported to thrive.

What to bring to your first appointment

Once you’ve booked your session with a Dietitian, you’ll complete an intake form before your appointment. This will give us an early understanding of what you’re looking to achieve and help get the most out of your appointment.

Some helpful things to bring to your first appointment with us include:

  • Your GP care plan (if applicable)
  • Medicare card or private healthcare card
  • A list of medications or supplements you are currently taking
  • Any recent medical or blood test results
  • A list of any burning questions you may have

Remember, finding your sweet spot with food is a journey, not a destination (cheesy, but true).

What matters is that you’re taking steps toward a healthier, happier you. So take a deep breath, trust the process, and know that we’re here to support you every step of the way.
